The best skin care tips to keep your hands healthy and beautiful
Our hands are so important. With them we write, gesture, tap on our smartphone screens, do pushups and play music. But, they are also among those body parts that are most exposed to the elements. Use the hand care tips below to ensure that your hands are looked after all the time!
Keep your hands protected from wind and weather
In cold and windy weather, the elements can cause your hands to become chapped, blotched and dry. Invest in some gloves and a thick hydrating cream that is especially designed for cold and wintry weather to stop your hands getting chapped, cracked and dehydrated. In the summer months, it is crucial to protect your hands from sunburn by applying a moisturising sun cream as a barrier – and reapplying it at least once an hour (and right away after swimming). If you work in an office typing at a keyboard for much of the day, or if you do other kinds of repetitive work, you can protect your hands from overstraining or RSI (repetitive strain injury) by flexing the fingers and rotating the wrists every couple of hours or so.
Find the right moisturiser
Our hands are all different – and different people have different skin care needs. Some people need to focus more on hydration, for example, whilst others want to work on soothing the skin of extra delicate hands. Some people, for instance keen gardeners or anyone who does any kind of manual work, may find that their hands start to become rough or slightly hardened and again finding the right moisturiser will help to smooth and soften the hands as if by magic. Sisley, Essie, Decleor and Clarins are some examples of brands that have great quality moisturisers with something to suit everyone. Treating your hands to a luxurious moisturiser will instantly make a difference to how they look and feel.
Moisturisers can be applied simply by sweeping them over the skin of the hands with your fingers. Using a circular motion to apply the moisturiser will get your blood flowing and help it to soak in more. In addition, cleansing your hands before moisturising them – especially using an exfoliant or a hand mask (which is like a fact mask for your hands) will unblock your pores and encourage those moisturising agents to soak in to the skin. Tools such as jade rollers can also be used to apply moisturiser.
Love and appreciate your hands
All of our hands are beautiful, and we will be motivated to care for them more if we appreciate their elegance and beauty. So why not book in for a monthly manicure to help your hands to look their best? Or, opt for a spa style treatment for your hands – there are plenty of relaxing and soothing options, such as hand baths (akin to foot baths for your feet) that are great for hydration.
