Cosmetics: Skin types and their needs
Each skin has its own characteristics and specific needs so before choosing a beauty product, either cosmetic or makeup, you must take into account what your skin is like.
In case you doubt, have a look at the different skin types:
Balanced skin, what we may call. Neither oily nor dry, not prone to imperfections.
Good aspect, hydrated and luminous, uniform tone and small pores.
More common among children, less among adults. Esp. people who keep fit, have good eating and beauty habits (good genetic inheritance helps as well).
Support all cosmetic types: do not irritate, are not prone to redness, do not have allergies to components (scented creams or beauty products). The right cosmetics for normal skin are described as “all skin types” or “normal to dry skin”.
Dry skin lacks moisture or does not keep it easily.
They have less oil than normal, are unprotected against external aggressions. The aspect is duller and matte, rough to the touch. Usu. they do not have imperfections or pimples, sensitive to some products for face care such as some cleansing products or soaps that dry out the skin even more. Face care products for this skin types must be oily, moisturizing, esp. for sensitive skin. It is also necessary the use of tonics to calm the skin before moisturizing cream.
Dry skin needs hydrating, nutritive and anti-wrinkle cosmetics, to compensate their condition.
If they do not receive the proper hydration and treatment, can be prone to premature wrinkles.
Oily skin has oil excess, as its own name indicates, esp. in the “T” zone (forehead, nose and chin). They usu. have large pores. Not as sensitive as the previous ones but can be prone to acne and imperfections due to oil secretion and pore obstruction (blackspots), what gives a duller aspect. Appearance may vary because of external agents (weather, tobacco, stress, food habits, …) and needs frequent cleansing with oil-free cosmetics.
This skin type looks younger for longer (are not so prone to wrinkles). They also dehydrate so cannot get rid of hydrating creams, oil-free and suitable for its ph.
Combination skin is in the middle of oily and normal skin. More prone to brightness in the “T” zone (forehead, nose and chin) although the rest of the face may look dry.
The same way than the oily tendency skin, this one needs frequent cleansing twice a day with adequate cosmetics that regulate the oil and hydrate where needed. Gels and oil-free face cleansing creams, non-astringent tonics (to avoid drying out, with alcohol to eliminate brightness and moisturizing creams or fluids, esp. oil-free.
This skin type irritates easily, reacting to some cosmetic components (perfumes, alcohol, …) or external agents showing of redness, dryness, pimples,… Due to this reaction and skin sensitivity, it is convenient trying the products previously in different zones (the arm) to make sure they are ok for the skin.
There are cosmetics esp. indicated for this kind of skin with light components, non-aggressive for the skin, alcohol and perfume free. Esp. for clear or freckled skin, sensitive to the sun. They need higher sun protection.
