Serge Lutens Perfumes: Niche Fragrances
The perfume’s family continues to grow!
This time, Serge Lutens perfumes joins the Club of Perfume as an exclusive member: a French niche perfume.
Serge Lutens is a French designer who began his career in the world of beauty hair care, designing haircuts and later he tried with makeup, being responsible for the creation of Carita. He was also a photographer of the models whom he did combing and makeup and he even became film director of short films and advertising campaigns. At 21, Vogue France hired him as head of makeup, hairstyles and accessories for Christmas and Christian Dior appointed him Director of Color (current figure of Creative Director of Makeup).
A trip to Morocco made Lutens discover the creative potential of the world of scents. So when in 1980, Shiseido trusted him to create the international image for their makeup products, he left Dior and accepted the responsibility in exchange for being able to open a shop in Paris where to expose his olfactory creativity: “Les Salons du Palais Royal” in the gardens of the Royal Palais in Paris. Thus, he created the group visual identity, its first perfume (Noir) and a new line of Shiseido makeup.
In 1990 Feminite du Bois was launched (“Wooden Femininity “), first perfume that adds woody essences in a feminine fragrance and considered one of the 20 best in History by the French Academy of Perfume.
In the 90’s, Serge Lutens began creating perfumes composing his own author perfumery: scents for both men and women, but not unisex. In 2000, Serge Lutens fragrance brand was finally created, with very selective international distribution. It was awarded with the Fifi Awards (the perfume Oscars).
Serge Lutens perfumes are composed of 20 ingredients, compared to the 200 in other commercial fragrances, following the simplicity of less is more.
The brand has 58 perfumes up to date, woman perfumes, man’s and unisex since its first edition, launched in 1991 in collaboration with perfumers such as Christopher Sheldrake, Maurice Roucel, Gilles Romey and Serge Lutens himself.
Its presentation is simple as its composition, though no less exclusive. The bottles are rectangular, adorned only by a simple name tag, 50 ml and are divided into: eau de perfume and eau de perfume concentrate. They all have exotics names: Five O’Clock Au Gingembre, Ambre Sultan, Datura Noire, Un Bois de Vanille, Nuit de Cellophane, …
