“Truth or dare”, the new Madonna’s perfume
What does a “material girl” smell like? How about a pop idol? From now on, Truth or Dare, Madonna‘s new perfume. Under this name, the singer has launched a brand that will include not only a perfume and a bath & body line, but also footwear, handbags and fashion accessories. Her previous brand, Material Girl, launched along with her daughter Lourdes, was aimed at youngsters, Truth or Dare is aimed at women aged 25 to 50, with natural style and sex appeal.
“I’ve always been a perfume fan and for years I wanted to create a personal one, an expression of me, but other people could not do so. Something classic, timeless and modern at the same time”, the singer said at her perfume’s release, which is joined to the long list of celebrities perfumes in the market, like JLo, Sarah Jessica Parker, Shakira or Britney Spears fragrances.
Madonna has always been an artist marked by contrasts and her perfume was not going to be less. Truth or Dare is intended to represent the duality in each of us, between reality and appearance, classical and contemporary, embodied in its scent and appearance.
The artist has her own vision of what a perfume can represent: “We can be fooled by what we see or hear, but not with what we smell. There is something primal and mystical about the sense of smell. Scents connect with our memory, nostalgia and the ability to dream and fantasize.”
Truth or Dare is a floral fragrance where narcotic flowers are mixed with woods and vanilla, creating olfactory contrasts intended to convey its own name. She wanted to create a contemporary version of her mother’s fragrance so she managed to synthesize the essence of a traditional flavor and at the same time, present-day. Stephen Nilsen of Givaudan perfumer has been responsible for its development, including in its composition notes of gardenia, tuberose and neroli, jasmine, benzoin, white lily petals and vanilla, caramelized amber and musk at the base. An intense aroma not for lovers of fresh and light women perfumes.
The bottle, designed by Fabien Baron in collaboration with Madonna, represents the union of classic and luxurious objects, purity and provocation, mixing white with golden and including its logo in the center.
The TV ad, reminiscent of the Erotic Blond Ambition era, was censured by the U.S. network ABC due to its erotic and “risqué” content. Is it really so bad? Judge yourselves.
Truth or Dare collection includes Eau de Parfum in 75m, 50ml. and 30ml sizes, body lotion (200ml) and shower gel (200ml), launched in April 2012 exclusively at Macy’s and from May on, in the rest of the world.
